Miss Bhan is the senior Ophthalmic Consultant and Medical Director of services at the clinic. She has extensive experience in the National Health Service in the North West and London as a Senior Consultant. She is also a consultant clinical advisor to Primary Eye Care Services, who are the largest provider of primary eyecare in the UK. Miss Bhan will be providing a comprehensive general ophthalmology service as well as a full range of glaucoma surgery including stents.

These services will include:

  • Cataract surgery (offering both standard and multifocal/toric or astigmatic lens implants).
  • YAG laser capsulotomy
  • Peripheral laser iridotomy
  • Treatment for dry eyes
  • Glaucoma diagnosis/management/treatment
  • Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT laser)
  • Minor operations including snips, cysts/papillomas etc

Mr Tanawade is an experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist, Cataract and Vitreoretinal Surgeon and Lead Clinician for Vitreoretinal Services at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals since 2015.

He undertakes routine and complex cataract surgery, secondary lens implantation and lens exchange procedures. Over his 24-year career in Ophthalmology, he has gained excellent experience in general Ophthalmology and its sub-specialties, particularly in surgical and medical retina.

He has performed over 7,000 procedures which include both routine and complex cataract surgeries. He has performed over 4,500 cataract and lens-related procedures and also undertaken high-volume cataract surgery. He is an expert in vitreo-retinal microsurgery.

He also offers ophthalmic laser treatments: retinal (retinal tears, diabetes etc), following cataract surgery (YAG capsulotomy) and for prevention of angle closure glaucoma (YAG iridotomy).

His ophthalmology training was mostly in Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Oxford Eye Hospital with a vitreoretinal fellowship was at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

He has presented in various national and international meetings and have scientific peer-reviewed publications to my credit. He is actively involved in training junior doctors and trainee surgeons in Ophthalmology.

Andrew Davies is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and is delighted to have joined the team at Lancashire Eye Clinic. He established the Vitreoretinal Service at NHS Lancashire Eye Centre, in Preston and Chorley, in 2019. He specialises in all aspects of vitreoretinal surgery, cataract surgery including both complex surgery and the complications of surgery, and medical retina conditions.

Andrew graduated in 2008 from the University of Manchester with a degree in both Medicine and European Studies. His final year was spent at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland on the Erasmus Programme where he also studied at L’Hopital Jules Gonin Eye Hospital.

After completing an academic foundation programme at the Salford Royal Hospital he embarked on his seven year Ophthalmology specialist training programme in the Northwest Deanery, predominantly at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. During his training he completed a Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, followed by the Vitreoretinal Fellowship at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. Prior to medical school Andrew also trained as an optometrist, and believes this broad experience gives him a unique perspective in helping patients achieve their best possible vision.

Within his NHS work Andrew is passionate about teaching and training, and is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire for the Optometry degree, and College Tutor for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He regularly teaches locally and nationally, and has published multiple journal articles. He takes pride in training the next generation of ophthalmic surgeons.

In his spare time he is very active cycling, running and climbing mountains. He has completed multiple marathons and managed to complete Ironman UK. This passion for an active lifestyle really drives his motivation to help patients achieve their own specific goals, and the impact that vision can have on this.

Ms Julie Thomson BSc (Hons), MA (Cantab), MB, BChir, MRSC (Ed), FRCOphth

Julie Thomson is a permanent Consultant in General Ophthalmology and Oculoplastics in the NHS. She manages all aspects of general ophthalmology including emergency procedures in addition to delivering specialist services in Oculoplastics.

Julie graduated in Medicine from the University of Cambridge in 1995. Prior to this she completed an Honours degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Sheffield and worked in the field of Forensic Medicine. Her initial medical career was in the Royal Air Force where she completed two tours of duty as a Medical Officer and trained in ophthalmic surgery in Peterborough, Birmingham and Nottingham. Julie undertook fellowship training in Oculoplastics in Birmingham before retiring from the military as a senior officer after 22 years, thereafter working in the NHS only.  Julie also worked as a Clinical Fellow in Medical Retina and Oculoplastics in Worcester Hospitals Trust before appointment to her current substantive Consultant post. Julie has a keen interest in teaching and within her NHS role is Medical Education Lead for medical students, Lead for nurse teaching and Clinical Supervisor for trainee ophthalmologists.

Julie deals with all aspects of general ophthalmology but especially lid and retinal conditions.  Oculoplastic procedures offered by Julie at the Lancashire Eye Clinic include brow lifts, blepharoplasty (removal of excess upper lid skin), electrolysis, ectropion (out-turning lid) and entropion (in-turning lid) repair, syringing of the lacrimal ducts, enlargement of the punctum (tear drainage duct), excision and reconstruction of small lid tumours, and numerous minor procedures such as excision of eyelid cysts, chalazia, papillomas and skin tags. Julie also offers general procedures such as laser and intravitreal injections and has an interest in innovative approaches to the management of dry eye disease and blepharitis.

Mr Damien Yeo MB, ChB, FRCOphth

Mr Yeo is a Consultant Paediatric and Adult Ophthalmologist. He is a regional and tertiary referral specialist based mainly at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool Women’s Hospital, and St Paul’s Eye Unit. He has a specialist interest in paediatric ophthalmology, congenital eye conditions, ophthalmic genetics, ocular motility and strabismus.

He graduated from the University of Manchester in 2008. He completed his ophthalmology training in the Wales deanery. During his registrar years, he was a member of the surgical skills faculty as well as an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He was a committee member of the Ophthalmologists-in-Training Group and was the founder of the Welsh Ophthalmic Trainees Society.

After his residency, Damien completed further fellowships in Great Ormond Street Hospital, Moorfields Eye Hospital, and the Royal London Hospital before taking up his consultant post in Liverpool. His surgical practice includes general ophthalmology and strabismus surgery where his aims are to achieve the patient’s expectations with as few surgeries as possible and with minimal scarring and pain.

Damien has multiple publications in peer reviewed journals and has written a few book chapters. His research interests include topics on visual development, strabismus, and ophthalmic phenotyping. Mr Ahmed Makso MB, ChB, FRCOphth FRCS. FRCOPHTH CertLRS, MSc MedEd

Mr Makso is an ophthalmic surgeon, academic lecturer, examiner and a tutor, living and practising in the Yorkshire region. He’s a substantive consultant in Hull Royal Eye hospital, with a main interest is cornea and refractive surgery. Ahmed has a royal college degree in implantable lenses and laser refractive surgery.

Ahmed got his primary medical degree in 2001 in Alexandria, where he also got his basic Ophthalmology training. This was followed by a fellowship of the Royal College of physicians and surgeons from Glasgow, a fellowship of the Royal College of ophthalmologist in London, and certificate in laser refractive surgery. He was awarded an ICO funded fellowship at the New York Eye and Ear infirmary. He moved to the UK, climbing the ladder and finishing his run through training in Sheffield teaching hospitals, which is one of only 4 hospitals in the country for treating eye tumours. He got a certificate of completion of training (CCT), then started a fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery via a world-renowned fellowship in Queen Victoria hospital.

In addition to his clinical practice, Ahmed has an interest in teaching, and holds a Masters in medical education from Manchester University, with a special interest in simulation in surgical training. Ahmed also is a microsurgical skills trainer and an examiner at the Royal College of ophthalmologist in London. He is a PLAB examiner which is the main exam for entry of foreign doctors to the United Kingdom. In addition, he’s a software / website developer and a certified gym trainer. He has multiple publications in ophthalmology and medical education.

Mr. Shreyas D Raj – MB. BS. MS. FRCSEd

Mr Shreyas Raj is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Blackpool Victoria Hospital. He provides comprehensive ophthalmology care with a special interest in Oculoplastic surgery and cataract surgery with premium lens implants.

He is an experienced surgeon having performed a few thousand successful cataract surgeries. He has been involved in teaching and training specialist trainees, junior doctors, medical students, nursing staff and Optometrists.

He has trained and qualified in India as well as the UK with a fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in1998. He has gained previous experience in Germany and USA as well.

Mr Raj has been involved in charity eye care services in India for urban poor as well as rural communities in association with Lions Club and remains committed to charity work in poor and developing countries.

He likes to travel and practices Yoga and meditation for holistic wellbeing. He likes to spend time with family and listen to music.
